The Syrian crisis drove oil prices to $111 a barrel. The crisis may well be worse if the U.S. strikes government installations there with drones. If Bashar al-Assad’s government reacts with more actions against civilians, the cycle of action and reaction could last for weeks, and perhaps beyond. The question of how oil could press gasoline prices higher, an issue that has been dormant for months, should cause anxiety again.
The price of oil does not pass through to gas prices directly because of the sources of the crude and refinery and transportation costs. However, it does pass through eventually.
Gasoline prices in the United States continue to run well below those of a year ago. The cost of an average gallon of regular nationwide stands at�$3.542, compared with $3.75 on the same day in 2012. As some historical evidence the figure could go much higher very quickly, prices have spiked sharply three times in the past two years, and approached $4 in March and April of 2012.

Somehow avoiding bankruptcy a few years back by diluting existing shareholders into oblivion, YRC has investors now thinking the company may be on the mend. One under-$10 trucking player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is YRC Worldwide (YRCW), which, through its subsidiaries, provides various transportation services primarily in North America.. This stock has been hit hard by the bears over the last three months, with shares off sharply by 50%.
If you take a look at the chart for YRC Worldwide, you'll notice that this stock has been downtrending badly for the last five months, with shares plunging lower from its high of $33.89 to its recent low of $7.06 a share. During that downtrend, shares of YRCW have been making mostly lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of YRCW have now started to stabilize and the stock has formed a triple bottom chart pattern over the last month, at $7.06, $7.20 and $7.44 a share. Shares of YRCW have now reversed its downtrend and started to uptrend, with the stock moving higher from $7.06 to its recent high of $10.50 a share. That move has now pushed shares of YRCW within range of triggering a big breakout trade.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in YRCW if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $10.63 a share to its 50-day moving average of $10.87 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 826,789 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then YRCW will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels $12.38 to $15 a share. Any high-volume move above $15 will then give YRCW a chance to tag $16 to $18 a share.
Traders can look to buy YRCW off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right around some key near-term support levels at $9.20 or at $8.35 a share. One can also buy YRCW off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply us

The Company owns or have interests in 14 NGL fractionators located in Texas and Louisiana. NGL fractionators separate mixed NGL streams into purity NGL products. The primary sources of mixed NGLs fractionated in the United States are domestic natural gas processing plants, crude oil refineries and imports of butane and propane mixtures. Mixed NGLs sourced from domestic natural gas processing plants and crude oil refineries are transported by NGL pipelines and by railcar and truck to NGL fractionation facilities.
The Company�� NGL fractionation facilities process mixed NGL streams for third party customers and support its NGL marketing activities. It earns revenues from NGL fractionation under fee-based arrangements, including a level of demand-based fees. The Company�� propylene fractionation and related activities consist of seven propylene fractionation plants (six located in Mont Belvieu, Texas and a seventh in Baton Rouge, Louisiana), propylene pipeline systems aggregating approximately 680 miles in length and related petrochemical marketing activities. This business includes an export facility and associated above-ground polymer grade propylene storage spheres located in Seabrook, Texas. Results of operations for its polymer grade propylene plants are dependent upon toll processing arrangements and petrochemical marketing activities. The toll processing arrangements include a base-processing fee per gallon (or other unit of measurement). Its petrochemical marketing activities include the purchase and fractionation of refinery grade propylene obtained in the open market and generate revenues from the sale and delivery of products obtained through propylene fractionation. The revenues from its propylene pipelines are based upon a transportation fee per unit of volume multiplied by the volume delivered to the customer. As part of its petrochemical marketing activities, it has refinery grade propylene purchase and polymer grade propylene sales agreements. Its butane isomerization business includes three butamer reactor units and eight associated deisobutanizer units located in Mont Belvieu, Texas, which comprise the commercial isomerization facility in the United States.
The Company�� commercial isomerization units convert normal butane into mixed butane, which is fractionated into isobutane, isobutane and residual normal butane. The uses of isobutane are for the production of propylene oxide, isooctane, isobutylene and alkylate for motor gasoline. Its isomerization business also generates revenues from the sale of natural gasoline created as a by-product of the isomerization process. The products produced by this facility are used in reformulated motor gasoline blends. The isobutane feedstocks consumed in the production of these products are supplied by its isomerization units. The feedstock for this plant is produced by its octane enhancement facility located at its Mont Belvieu complex. Refined products pipelines and related activities consist of its Products Pipeline System, equity method investment in Centennial Pipeline LLC (Centennial) and refined products marketing activities. The Products Pipeline System transports refined products, and petrochemicals, such as ethylene and propylene and NGLs, such as propane and normal butane. These refined products are produced by refineries and include gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, kerosene, distillates and heating oil. Refined products also include blend stocks, such as raffinate and naphtha. Blend stocks are used to produce gasoline or as a feedstock for certain petrochemicals. The Centennial Pipeline intersects its Products Pipeline System near Creal Springs, Illinois, and loops the Products Pipeline System between Beaumont, Texas and south Illinois. Stamps.com also made the reminder that United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS) and FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) are raising ground shipping rates by an average of 4.9% for 2014. A look at the UPS site shows that its price hikes became effective December 30, 2013. After its Christmas rush earnings disclosure took away some of the gusto of the bulls, the 4.9% average hike for UPS shown on its UPS Ground and UPS Air and international services may matter. The actual effective dates were listed as January 23, 2014 on the 2014 rate page. Analysts are calling for a 5% revenue gain in 2014 for UPS, versus what is now only a 2.9% revenue hike in 2013.

AP On Monday, investors learned that Amazon.com (AMZN) is beefing up its shipment schedules in key markets by offering Sunday deliveries to its Amazon Prime customers. The Postal Service was a surprising choice given that FedEx (FDX) and UPS (UPS) were also in the running for Amazon's extended parcel delivery service business. While the new plan nice for customers, the biggest beneficiary may be the United States Postal Service. So now let's get into what this could mean for the struggling Postal Service. Dead Letters It wasn't that long ago that the U.S. Postal Service system was doing so badly that it was entertaining massive layoffs and ending Saturday deliveries. Things are starting to get better for it as the economic recovery shows signs of strengthening, but the Post Office is still losing a lot of money. The Postal Service generated $16.2 billion in revenue in its quarter ending in June, but that was more than offset by $16.9 billion in expenses. The $740 million loss is actually a dramatic improvement, and it would have been an actual profit if it wasn't for Congress-mandated health fund payments. (And who knows what its P&L statement might look like if Congress allowed the Post Office to charge enough for postage to cover its costs?) It may surprise some to see that revenue actually increased by nearly 4 percent during the period, but the growth isn't coming from traditional first-class mail. That business continues to slide as folks use e-mail, smartphones, and faxes to communicate without having to deal with postage stamped communiques. However, if the lines at the Post Office don't seem to be getting any shorter, it's because e-commerce is keeping postal workers busy.
